Losing teeth can be miserable. You may have trouble eating the foods you love, your speech may be affected, neighboring teeth may twist, turn and move to fill the spaces of the missing teeth, and the muscles in your face may start to sag, making you look older.

Fortunately, when some or all of your teeth are missing or need to be extracted, dentures can restore or even enhance your appearance and be virtually undetectable. And thanks to modern technology, dentures now look more natural and are more comfortable than ever before.

Dentures are appliances that are custom-made to replace your missing teeth and restore the appearance and oral functions that were lost.  They have some advantages over other tooth replacement methods because they are non-invasive and removable.

There are two types of dentures:

  • Complete (or full) dentures – Full dentures replace all of the teeth on the upper and/or lower jaw. They are held in place by forming a seal with the gums, but a denture can also be held in place by attaching it to dental implants that have been surgically placed in the bone of the jaw.
  • Partial dentures – Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. They are either fixed (also called a “bridge”) or removable. Removable partials have a metal framework that keeps them in place. And both partials rely on adjacent teeth for support.

Dentures can restore normalcy to your life. If you have experienced tooth loss from periodontal diseases, an accident, or any other reason, and think you may need dentures, we invite you to schedule an appointment at Naples General & Cosmetic Dentistry so we can evaluate your specific needs and recommend appropriate treatment.
